4 Ways to Remove Hard Water Stains

Natural Ways to Clean Hard Water Stains

Your bathroom is one of the most used rooms in the house. The more people use it, the more it should be cleaned and maintained regularly. It is also better to call a professional plumbing service in case of pipe and drain problems in your bathroom fixtures.

But sometimes, cleaning your bathroom with soap or commercial cleaner and water is not enough. No matter how much you scrub your sink, bathroom mirror, or tiles, it will be useless if you have hard water flowing into your water pipe supply. Hard water stains leave unsightly residue on your bathroom fixture surfaces and cause clogged drains that can slow down water flow.

What causes hard water stains?

Hard water contains high mineral levels, including iron, calcium, and magnesium. Those hard water stains are mineral deposits left on the surface when the droplets dry. Depending on the mineral content in the water, the stains could be chalky white, rust-colored, or brown.

Several cleaning products on the market promise to remove hard water stains. Unfortunately, not all work effectively. It could be a trial-and-error thing testing out different products that work.

Natural ways to clean hard water stains

You should clean it immediately if you notice hard water stains on your tiles, shower heads, faucets, or sinks. Here are tips for cleaning hard water stains and making them look sparkly brand-new.

Vinegar

This condiment is not just for cooking but also an effective household cleaner and removes hard water stains. You can use white vinegar, apple cider, or cleaning vinegar (not meant for cooking).

Pour some vinegar into a spray bottle and spritz it on the affected surface with hard water stains. Let it sit for up to 15 minutes. If it starts to dry up, spray again with more vinegar for better results. You can drench paper towels in vinegar and stick them onto the glass for shower doors and other large vertical surfaces. After waiting, scrub the surface using an old toothbrush or a soft-bristled brush.

Baking soda

Another solution to remove hard water stains is to apply baking soda and water paste to the affected surfaces. Let the paste stay and soak on the surface for a few minutes, and then scrub with an old toothpaste or a soft-bristled brush to make it shiny like diamonds.

Cream of tartar and hydrogen peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide also works on removing hard water stains. For best results, combine hydrogen peroxide with cream of tartar and apply it to the affected surfaces. Let it sit for about 30 minutes before scrubbing with a clean, damp sponge.

Toothpaste

It does not only protect and clean your teeth but also helps remove hard-to-remove hard water stains. Fluoride toothpaste works best on glass surfaces, metal fixtures, and dishware.

Hard water stains are unpleasant to the eyes and can even affect water flow. That is why removing the stains and buildup that can damage your fixtures is best. You can use the abovementioned remedies to get rid of hard water stains. But for more complicated pipe and drain problems, it is best to hire a professional plumbing service in Columbia, TN, today!
