What’s Special About Mobile Home Plumbing?

Plumbing System for Mobile Homes

It is a dream of every individual to have their home. Buying a real estate property does not come cheap, but a good long-term investment nonetheless. Some people have to leave their homes for out-of-town trips, but some bring their home along the journey. There are mobile homes for such purposes.

As the name suggests, mobile homes are moveable and prefabricated homes used for temporary, holiday, or even as permanent residences. It may have different furnishings, plumbing systems, and other parts as traditional homes. Still, mobile homes are a good investment, especially for those who are more into outdoor adventures or looking for affordable living options.

The plumbing system of mobile homes

For one thing, there is a huge difference between a traditional home and a mobile home’s plumbing systems. The latter is not built with the same standards as the former as they fall under different regulations.

Also, mobile homes are meant to be on the affordable side than traditionally-built homes. This means the materials and fixtures used in mobile homes are low-cost. Although the material quality used in recently-made mobile homes is way better than before, there is still a lot of difference in materials used on mobile home plumbing systems.

Materials used

Knowing what makes mobile homes’ plumbing systems is important to address future plumbing issues and consider upgrading or renovating your home. In this case, mobile homes usually have plastic pipes instead of copper pipes present in traditional homes. These plastic pipes are never intended for use in traditional homes but are approved for mobile homes.

However, most plastic pipes may not be as durable as copper pipes and are more prone to leaks. Meanwhile, some mobile homes use PEX or CPVC pipes. These could last as long as copper pipes and are more durable than plastic pipes.

Venting

The pipe’s venting is also different in mobile homes. For example, most mobile home sinks and kitchen drains have under-the-counter vents. Ensure to allow space for under-the-counter vents when replacing fixtures in your mobile home.

Location

Pipes used in mobile homes and traditional homes also differ. Usually, the lines would come straight from the floor. If you plan to live in a mobile home, you should consider the location when changing your pipe fixtures. Sink cabinets should also have enough space for your water pipes, and better to use straight stop valves.

Cleaning

Cleaning a mobile home’s plumbing system should also be considered. Traditional homes usually have a kitchen, washing machine, and mainline clean-outs to clear a sewer line clog. Mobile homes do not have that, making the absence of clean-out more expensive and challenging.

Should you live in a mobile home?

Transitioning from a traditional to a prefabricated home such as a mobile home can be nerve-racking. There are several designs, materials, and sizes to choose from. Some benefits of living in a mobile home are the following:

  • Most mobile homes or “prefabricated homes” passed safety and quality standards that can withstand strong winds.
  • It is more affordable than building traditional houses.
  • It will also make you appreciate the simple life and love the outdoors more.
